AIK tests Blix: "He is good"
Skrevet av Håvard Lindheim, 22. juli 2004, 08:18

Lars Blixt will stay at Swedish club AIK this week and train with them. Rosenborg are intent to let the Bosman player leave Lerkendal.

MOVES EAST? Lars Blixt has seldom had to do more than warm up. Now, there is a chance he might be an AIK player.

Earlier this year it was clear that Rosenborg would not offer the right back a contract renewal. He has been a second choice behind Christer Basma, and has only played 17 league games since the transfer from Nybergsund before the 2001 season.

"Lars has never managed to secure a place on the team, and in situations like these, we sooner or later have to cut through and say that's it," RBK Sports Director Rune Bratseth said to rbkweb.com in May.

Since then, Robbie Russel is bought, and Rosenborg has hence no use for Blixt as a back-up. As a result, the 27-year old is allowed to leave Lerkendal now, five months before the contract expires.

This week he stays with Swedish club AIK and trains with them.

Things moved rather fast when the Swedes decided to invite the Rosenborg defender. Blixt got the message on Sunday, and already the next day he was in Stockholm.

"An agent called me Sunday evening and asked if I was interested in training with AIK. I said yes after having spoken to Ola By Rise. He said that if I wanted this, I could go for it," Lars Blixt says to Eastern Norway daily Østlendingen.

The club of former Vålerenga midfielder Pa-Modou Kah need a new right back as Jimmy Tamandi is on his way to Italian serie B club Salernitana. Originally this transfer was supposed to happen after the season, but now it looks like Tamandi moves south this summer.

Blixt hopes that he might be their man. "AIK is a big club in Scandinavia, and really sounds like a great alternative if they want me," he says.

It remains to see wether AIK are interested in a transfer. AIK coach Nebosja Novakovic is at least well pleased with what he has seen of the 27-year old so far. In addition to Blixt, the Serbian forward Branko Radovanovic is playing with AIK this week.

"We need to see the players in action a little while more. But Blixt has been good. He has not played many matches for Rosenborg - about 20 in four years - maybe he is too low to play there?" Novakovic wonders.

The 174 cm tall Blixt is more than big enough to play for AIK, tough. It remains to see wether they think he is good enough.

"He has a superb aggressivity. The fact that he is a Scandinav makes it easy for him to adapt to our play. It is harder for a type like Branko," Nebosja Novakovic states to the website FotbollDirekt.

PS! If a transfer should go in order, Blixt at least got a honorable ending on his RBK carreer: He played really well and had an assist during his 70 minutes playing time at Brann stadium, July 5th.
